Danielle mctaggart - Dear rouge
Myself: So i don't know if you heard about the project, but it is called “Women FOR Women” - a project i started with a good friend of mine, Lo Waight who is also part of the project as a musician. I did this through photography and a bunch of interviews with each woman in the project! Its basically a way to shine light on lots of local female musicians, but also since i am doing media this weekend (rock the shores) i thought it would be really cool to try and connect with a few women playing the festival! So i just have some questions for you (and the other ladies interested!)
The first one was “Who are some female and male musical influences you have had growing up/or that have influenced you as a musician?”
Danielle (DEAR ROUGE): Definitely, I guess I have like three that would be my top choices. I am going to say that #1 would be Karen O, of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. I just love her fearlessness, and that she kind of does whatever she wants, she isn't very afraid of - I have seen an interview with her and she says she really wants to be a disarming figure, so that people are not worried about feeling like they dont look cool, you know she kind of uses humour, and i REALLY like that. I just want people to be and to enjoy.
Myself: Amazing, yeah i definitely have really loved her music growing up. I think a lot of the musicians i was influenced by (that weren’t from 1980 and before, were influenced by my sister. Go ahead with your next choices!
Danielle: Ahh. I love St. Vincent, So Annie Clark, i just think she's incredibly talented, a wicked guitar player. When i was younger i LOVED Lauryn Hill - i thought she was beyond talented. Just her tone of voice, and the character she had.
Myself: Could you name any male influences?
Danielle: Oh male influences! Well i have been hugely into Pink Floyd, such a fan of “Dark Side of the Moon”, i have just been diving into that. I just love the patience that they have, i also would love to include Lorde in the mix, she just has this character about her and Pop Culture too that she just isn't afraid to explore. I think her and Jack Antonoff made a great album together.
Myself: Amazing choices - My last question is “what is your favorite part about performing?”
Danielle: Ahh yeah, my favorite part for sure is sort of going back to the Karen O thing, just seeing people have a good time, people coming together, and doing something as a group of people, when there are so many differences in this world, and so many things that people can argue about its such a pleasure to be apart of something where people are just enjoying it. Just that energy of people coming around. You see it at sports games too - where people just have this energy where it doesn't matter who you are.
